If you have MS, it’s time to stop believing these exercise myths 👇 👩‍⚕️ As an MS-specialized physical therapist, I’ve heard a *lot* of myths over the years about exercising with multiple sclerosis. Let’s break down a few of the ones I hear all the time, and what’s actually true… ❌ “Exercise is just about building muscle” ✅ Strength is only part of it! Exercise also helps with balance, flexibility, and walking (aka the stuff that makes everyday life easier). ❌ “Exercise doesn’t help your brain” ✅ Movement boosts memory, word recall, and can lower anxiety and depression. ❌ “Exercise makes stress worse for people with MS” ✅ The right kind of exercise can actually calm your nervous system, loosen tight muscles, and leave you feeling more grounded. In fact, research shows that positive brain changes are observed on MRI's after just 3 months of exercise! ❌ “Exercise drains your energy” ✅ Consistent, MS-friendly movement actually boosts your energy over time. And there's always a way to modify your exercise to make it work for your symptoms & energy levels (yep... even from bed!) ❌ “Exercise messes with your sleep” ✅ Regular movement = better sleep. It’s not always instant, but over time, it can help regulate your sleep cycle and deepen rest. These myths might’ve been common advice decades ago, but luckily, the science has caught up. 🧠🙌 Did any of these surprise you? Let me know in the comments! ⬇️ How many days per week do you get any kind of exercise/movement in? #brainhealth #braintraining #multiplesclerosisawareness #MSresearch #MSwarriors #multiplesclerosissupport
