In the UK, you don't have to attend lectures (but should). Seminars, workshops or labs may be mandatory though depending on course requirements.

You are so right. I mean a better idea would to have like a sliding scale of EC based off attendance so that it can only improve your grade but no harm no foul if you can’t make it.

two of my professors this semester made it so if you didn’t miss a certain amount of classes, you would get points added to your grade. i missed like 8 classes and still got 2 bonus points
