the smart thing is definitely true. I never ever struggled in high-school and got all As so when I got to college and majored in Biology and couldn't get All As, I felt stupid.

This is so true. We used to tell my son he was smart and he didn’t try. I started saying look how hard you work and praising his effort. Huge change

Idk about this. My dad always told me I was so smart and it gave me so much confidence that I could always figure things out. I think it depends a lot on the individual child.

This is huge. I specifically remember when I was a kid and messing up in a dance recital and did really bad. my parents praised me for how good I did. I never trust people when they compliment me now

everyone used to tell me how smart I was like that was the ONE adjetive they'd use to describe me. Then I grew up and realized I wasn't, not really. Now i have a fear of failure 👍🏻

Happened to me. As a gifted kid I was told that all the time. Now I still struggle with getting angry at myself when I can’t figure something out within a certain time frame.

THIS. My whole elementary & middle school life, I was told I was super smart. When the mechanics/ type of learning changed in higher levels, I felt like a disappointment when I started to struggle.

YES!!! Having a smart kid and treating them like they’re so smart can be harmful. Smart kids get used to being so smart that hard things for other kids are easy for them so when it comes time to work
