@nytimes: After twelve horses died in the run-up to last year's Kentucky Derby, the sport is grappling with how to ensure the safety of racehorses at the 150th race on Saturday. Our reporter explains how. Video by Joe Drape, Gabriel Blanco and Claire Hogan/The New York Times We're conducting a survey of our readers, and hope you'll take a few minutes to share your views. I’m glad to see that something has been done in the reaction to what happened last year. Action instead of words. Hopefully we’ll see the results! Care of the horses should be #1

I saw a video yesterday of this guy saying that he was excited that a horse born in 2024 would run, and now reading the comments that is very sad, ain't even a year old💀😭

Another problem is that these horses are still technically babies. They mature around 4-7 years but they’re raced as 2-3 year olds and their bodies can’t handle the stress

I have 3 Ex racehorses. They are exceptional I love them dearly and the connections I have too. I do recognize that horse racing needs reforms. No more 2 yr old races and the TC chase at 4 is a small

Great step. Three day events have vet checks all along the way. Thoroughbreds LOVE to run. We LOVE to watch them. They deserve absolute protection as they go and purposeful rehoming and care. ❤️

While some of what’s said could be valid, look at pedigrees, conformation ( especially bone) and the age these horses are put to work. They also are factors

So many people in this comment section fail to realize many things. I work at a racetrack the place that I work at as well as a Kentucky Derby are better than most.

No one talks about the training methodologies or what happens to the horses that don’t win either.
