@teamhootpolevault: Heres what was happening. I was so focused on the invert that the turn happened late. If you look at the pictures, the force road from the pole is the blue arrow. The red arrow my vaulter car was two thirds in the ditch. The energy from the pole was going one direction and I was going a different direction...shoot. At the time I didn't know what was happening but when I Started working with Steve and Caroline White they gave me a series of drills I have in my book that I call The Caroline White Series. If I'm being honest, I had to put my ego aside for 3 weeks as the MN Gopher girls made fun of me for not being able to do these 1st grade pv skills. But over time I was able to figure them out and transfer the skills to bigger poles and longer runs. The cue that helped the most was to keep my right hand on my right leg to keep my pv car on the force road. Low and behold, my turn became sooner, I had more control of the pole, I had more control of my body in flight, and more bars stayed up! It was a tweak to my pole vault order of operations to start the turn sooner that miraculously improved my vaulting. Maybe it'll help yours! Give it a try!
