My book says that a tamped down sand layer under pea gravel, and under the larger stones is key.

I did my own rock landscaping in the front yard about 3 years ago and it’s so beautiful. Only a few weeds on the edges. Definitely a thicker layer like we did helped, and we placed farm grade black plastic under. I read that fabric weed barriers don’t work as they just grow through and it breaks down easily.

I live mine so much better then reg mulch, the fabric wears down over time. Just spray with weed killer once a week. Better then mulching every season

My actual mulch was so much easier to maintain. I had to have river rock beds for drainage recently like 4 months ago and they are all full of weeds within 3 weeks. Horrible

When we moved into our house the newly placed river rock looked gorgeous. Little did we know it was a spider & weed haven 😩 now I’m wondering if I can toss in a ground cover to take over??
