So many people responding here have no idea what the Infield Fly rule is all about. First and foremost, it only applies when there are runners on (at least) first and second base.

No, you cannot intentionally drop a line drive in order to make a double play, batter is out, play is dead

Not a double play, exactly you can’t intentionally drop the ball for the double play, so by rule both players are safe. Sorry it’s the rule

You can definitely drop the ball on purpose it’s apart of the game. The ONLY rule set against this is an infield fly but this was not a fly ball. happy to help people who didn’t understand 😁
