One of the things a lot of adhd kids struggle with is handwriting. After playing around with his medication over the last few months we finally got into a specialist that truly understood what was going on and we were able to properly medicate him. The first medication we tried was methylphenidate and from what I learned he was on a 70/30 release. This means that 70% of the medication was releasing out first and then 30% throughout the day. He seemed super zonked out in the mornings and then by the afternoons he was completely wired because it wasn’t lasting. I’m so grateful for his pediatrician because she started us on this process but I decided to seek out a specialist who could really help us figure out a game plan for him. He now sees a child psychiatrist who explained the old medication he was on and they have different tablets with different releases he is now on a 50-50 release which we have seen so many positives with. The last few months have been a nightmare trying to switch medication in line with a crush and complete rage. So much that it resulted in him getting suspended from school and isolated to his area during church. It was truly mentally exhausted but knock on with the last few weeks have been incident free and I feel like we are finally back on track. It’s crazy to see the difference at school as well. Such a powerful testament of what the proper medication truly can do for him. #adhd #adhdcommunity #adhdsquad #adhdsupport #neurodivergent #adhdstruggles #parenting #motherhood #motherhoodunplugged #motherhoodunfiltered #adhdkids
