yesterday my newborn brother passed away… my whole family broke down, even my older brother who’s always been the strong one. i didn’t expect him to carry it all, and it wasn’t easy for me either, but someone had to stay standing. i chose to be that person not because i didn’t feel the pain, but because i knew if we all collapsed, we wouldn’t be able to get back up. even when we were washing him before the shroud, i smiled while doing it… not because it didn’t hurt, but because my dad and brothers were crying their hearts out. they said i had no feelings, and honestly i don’t blame them. pain makes people see things differently. but someone has to hold it in, someone has to be the steady one. not for praise, not to act tough. just so they can grieve and cry in peace, knowing there’s still someone standing strong who shows nothing on the outside. but inside of this person is already dead
