I’m 3rd generation. It makes me sad that my family didn’t want to speak Italian anymore. They weren’t publicly proud because they were discriminated. I wish they kept the language.

Love this take. For many, they came here from Italy & immediately tried to assimilate. They were proud new Americans. Grateful they came & proud of their contributions in shaping/building the US.

That’s what all immigrants should do, adapt to the new country that you’re living in. It’s something to be proud of. Not to forget where you came from but to be grateful for the opportunities that America gives you and celebrate that by adapting.
