A DoorDash driver could be charged with product tampering, police said, as footage emerged showing the employee spraying what’s alleged to have been an irritant substance onto a food delivery. The customer, Mark Cardin, told Storyful that he and his wife were getting food around midnight on December 7. “As my wife got it and began to eat, I was in the other room and then I noticed her coughing and gasping, and she threw up,” Cardin said. “Then I noticed the bag had been tampered with and had some kind of spray all over it so I checked my footage from the doorbell camera.” In the video, the suspect can be seen walking up to the house and leaving the food on the doorstep. After taking the proof of delivery picture, she sprays something toward the bag. Quoting the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office, NBC said there had been no arrests yet, and the driver’s identity had not been confirmed. In a statement, DoorDash said it had revoked the driver’s access to the platform and was cooperating with law enforcement. “We have absolutely zero tolerance for this type of appalling behavior,” the statement said. Speaking to local media, Cardin said, “We live in a terrible world right now. Horrific. People are mean for no reason. There was no reason to do what she done … We assume it’s pepper spray, that’s more than likely what it is, but now in this day and age it could’ve been anything. It could’ve been rat poison, it could’ve been fentanyl. I mean, my wife could’ve been dead.”
