In the UK the primary ‘otherness’ is class divide. The different classes are a completely different culture. anyone growing up working class can’t relate to someone from the upper classes etc

Unlike in US you don’t get categorised by your ethnicity. If you were born in UK or became British citizen. You are just British. No need for that extra s**t

We need to stop comparing ourselves with the US bc we have a completely different cultural understanding of race than they do and it doesn't mesh.

There isn’t the general sense of “Asian” community. There’s British/Chinese, British/Pakistani, British/Bengali. People are more tied to their specific background rather than a wide general Asian’ness

Answer me this:
Do you want an extra adjectival label that racists can use to demean you, or do you just want to say "Eff off, I'm British!"?

There’s more south Asians in the Uk than East Asians. In the US it’s the other way round

There’s less dedication to race here in the UK & I feel like Brits are more likely to talk about themselves in terms of specific culture/ethnicity/country of origin. The US is very racially divided

Population is smaller so our British Asians represent a fraction of those in America. We love our English Asians.
