what I usually do in this situation is walk a bit farther down the street and then cross it. It makes me feel less guilty 😅

i accidentally crossed one without noticing in ginza cos some had traffic lights some didn't and i was looking at my maps 😂 noticed some ppl looking at me after i crossed lol (it was a short one)

This is so true!! I was in Tokyo and there was an officer watching… no traffic and we al stood and waited 🤣🤣 I was giggling the whole time because it was literally 3 steps 🤣🤣🤣

recently I'm Japanese in-laws came to visit us in Melbourne. my mother in-law was shocked everyone just crossed the street without the lights changing.

Same in Adelaide, Australia. Almost no one crosses, the police can fine you for "jaywalking". I only do it if the road is not big and it is obvious that is safe to cross, or when I'm in a rush.

In Germany people usually wait at red lights even if there's no car in sight. We will cross it sometimes but never when there's a child around cause we need to set a good example xD At least that's how I was raised

this happened to me in Nara. the road was about 2m wide and it had a red light so I followed the rules and stood there and waited. I did feel a bit silly though 🤣
