Digital isn’t better at everything. High quality film still has higher dynamic range, and that doesn’t look the same as digital in certain conditions.

What’s crazy is how possible it is to simulate film. The Holdovers is an excellent example of a film that shot digital and fooled everyone.

It depends on the project. I saw The Bikeriders at AFI Fest, and it was shot in film. Being shot in that format helped me to understand the characters and that time period (it is set in the 60s)….

At $100k can you even rent the package, pay camera team, process and scan the film? I did a $200k+ feature on digital and it was very tight.

i agree with most of your content but totally disagree on this take. film is infinitely better than digital. digital is cheaper yes. but all the digital work I'm post will never look as good as film

i will accept this lol. but whyyyy do so many digital films *look like shit* -- like is it all a color correction thing? or bc you *can* shoot w/o great lighting etc etc and then think "fix in post"
