Heart and lungs=shallow respirations noted with some abdominal breathing. Pendulous abdomen on palpation. Did eat some canned food this morning.  DX: Chemistry Profile/CBC=Glob elevated 5.5 (2.5-4.5); ALP elevated 1,924 (23-212); RBC low 4.97 (5.65-8.87); HCT low 32.2 (37.3-61.7); HGB low 12 (13.1-20.5); Retics low WBC high 27.28 (5.05-16.76); Neutrophilia 22.38 (2.95-11.64); Monocytosis 1.39 (.16-1.12) DX: Xray (RL, LL & VD Views of Thorax and Abdomen)=Diffuse pulmonary infiltrates noted throughout lung fields. Cardiac silhouette may be enlarged on lateral view. A: Pneumonia; Cushings disease also suspected due to the elevated ALP P: RX: Enrofloxacin 136mg 1T SID 10 days 1/1: P is depressed P's rate was lowered down to 53mls/hr P is not eating at this time. Will place MR for tomorrow. 12/31: Offered half of canned food but did not seem interested at this time.. Refused chicken.  Pink tacky mm, lethargic, increased RR, labored breathing, harsh lung sounds.  Probable pneumonia.  IV catheter, IV bolus of 500 mls LRS then 89 mls/hr. Pilled her with amoxi clav, gave Entyce PO, and gave enrofloxacin injection. Discontinue doxy. E. collar. 12/19 EAR INFECTION: Both ear canals are severely inflamed with green waxy debris. Both ear canals are stenotic and not able to visualize tympanic membrane. Evidence of chronic bilateral inflammation. DX: Ear Swab cytology=Right ear=Rods/Cocci TNTC                                    Left ear=Rods/Cocci TNTC Administered EKT (enrofloxacin/Ketoconazole/Triamcinolone) 3cc into both ears 12/19 HEARTWORM POSITIVE: Pet has been prescribed Doxycycline for 14 days as part of the new heartworm therapy. We have started a 10-day course of an antibiotic called Doxycycline to treat these symptoms. This is a common illness in places that house many dogs, and we expect a full recovery with treatment. Please monitor your new dog at home to ensure these symptoms are resolving. Additional symptoms to look for would be yellow/green nasal discharge, increased frequency of sneezing or coughing, lack of appetite and sudden changes in energy level. If symptoms do not improve or worsen at home, or if you have any other concerns, please follow up with your regular veterinarian for additional care. Also note that even after symptoms resolve, the germs that cause “kennel cough” may still be shed for up to several weeks. 12/27/24: The dog is BAR. 3rd day on URI treatment, not eating. Coughing has bilateral purulent nasal discharge. RX: Doxy 100mg 2.5 tab SID for 10 day This dog was showing symptoms of Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex, commonly known as “kennel cough” during examination today. We have started a 10-day course of an antibiotic called Doxycycline to treat these symptoms. This is a common illness in places that house many dogs, and we expect a full recovery with treatment. Please monitor your new dog at home to ensure these symptoms are resolving. Additional symptoms to look for would be yellow/green nasal discharge, increased frequency of sneezing or coughing, lack of appetite and sudden changes in energy level. If symptoms do not improve or worsen at home, or if you have any other concerns, please follow up with your regular veterinarian for additional care. Also note that even after symptoms resolve, the germs that cause “kennel cough” may still be shed for up to several weeks. 12/27/24: The dog is BAR. 3rd day on URI treatment, not eating. Took things slower and would explore and sniff around yard being open to approach others for light socializing.
