Cooperative Care (n.): A training approach where a horse is taught to willingly participate in handling, health care, and everyday procedures through trust, communication, and choice, rather than force. . Previously we have wormed, tape worm tested Blondie without much of a problem. A little scepticism but with gentle handling and a calm process we have been ok. Recently though she has needed to have some oral sedation and it tastes, smells gross, and due to the need in the situation I just had to do what I had to do to give it to her. Nothing bad but the first video in these clips but I just hung on… I don’t feel good about this but it was a needs must situation and I knew at the time I would have to do some work to mend the trust I broke. So here I am doing the work. Blondie is needle shy too so with the support of @nurturingnatureequine we have been working on that too and we have managed to vaccinate and intravenously sedate Blondie with very little worry so we are making amazing progress. So grateful to some wonderful r+ humans that have shown me the light when it comes to this way of care with our horses @blhorsemanship @scienceforsoundness and @nurturingnatureequine Lily Wilson so currently has a rehab space available and I promised I would mention it incase it can help someone. I’ll carry on sharing this progress with my precious Blondie girl
