I had a male paramedic say I was having a panic attack when I had pneumonia that I was hospitalized for later that day. Mental health diagnoses ARE legitimate however there should always be thorough

I have debilitating anxiety. But my endometriosis is also real, and is constantly dismissed because of the anxiety.

My anxiety diganosis was a that made me feel so seen. However following that, any symptoms that arose were dismissed due to them fitting the criteria of anxiety.

It's more that they say it's anxiety then won't treat the anxiety. And if we don't respond to meds properly we are treatment resistant or nonvompliant for not taking the med increasing si then dropped

In my experience "anxiety" is used by many non psychiatrist docs as a new way to dx "hysteria", and I think people are usually reacting to that being the doctor's attitude

Yep, I think theres many bad doctors *and also* it’s so easy to be told “this is likely psych-based” and hear “it’s your fault,” regardless of how gentle or thoughtful the dr is.

I feel like that's also conveyed to a lot of people by the people who gaslight them, because it usually comes from a place of not taking them seriously and not wanting to deal with them and it's awful

I’m with you! Neuropsych here. The level of disappointment I see when I tell folks it’s anxiety and not ADHD is baffling to me.

A lot of my symptoms *were caused by anxiety* and I worry the intensity of this discourse means that if a doctor suggests anxiety, it might be dismissed outright.

Also once you have a mental health diagnosis on your chart, you never receive a full work up again. The next dr sees that and is like “oh they’re just anxious. Go home”

But many Drs will dismiss your physical issues if you also have anxiety, do they not know they can coexist?

I have an anxiety disorder. Sometimes things are just anxiety. Other times I tell a doctor about symptoms, they tell me it's just my anxiety, and I end up in the hospital with a deadly infection later

I’ve been guilty of this, and I think it’s both my own internalized MH stigma AND the way “anxiety” was used to dismiss me

The problem is that "you're anxious" has been used to dismiss me when I had no symptoms of anxiety but did have symptoms of something that could have been physically dangerous to me undiagnosed.
