@bdccarpenter: Why do so many diets fail? Video with @Sohee Carpenter A brand-new study looked at people who had received weight loss surgery. It found that people who had very rigid attitudes towards foods tended to have worse weight loss outcomes. This is in line with previous research, suggesting that very strict diets with all-or-nothing rules aren’t as likely to delivery long-lasting weight loss. Part of the theory is, people who have this ‘dichotomous’ or ‘black and white’ thinking around food, often feel a certain degree of shame or guilt when they break their rules, which can cause them to spiral. Have you ever eaten one thing you view as “off plan” and then thought “oh what the hell, my diet is already ruined’? Well, that, but on a larger scale. This is why this growing trend of people saying “YOU SHOULD NEVER EAT THIS!” Is such a terrible idea. Because knowing it’s not healthy to eat lots of cake makes perfect sense. But being terrified to eat even a single slice of cake and feeling guilty when you do can be a recipe for disaster. There are many reasons why long-term weight loss is difficult, and the psychology behind eating behaviour is one that many people tend to overlook. P.S. Yup, I’m losing more regularly (if not quickly) since stopped being strict on what I eat & focus on portion sizes & when (to reduce snacking). Now less inclined to treats & no stress if I do.

I just set a calorie limit and ate what I liked, overtime I ended up eating healthier, more nutritious foods, but allowing myself to have chocolate, or a soda here and there has helped a lot

Yip the number of times a f it friday becomes a sod it Saturday then into a stuff this Sunday then into a meh Monday is unbelievable fir done track. Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday were normally ok

This use to be me and I would sometimes “ruin” my diet on purpose so that I could say F it and binge on everything. Now I eat a little of everything regularly and don’t have this issue anymore. 💗
