Root Beer actually does not taste even close to Malzbier. Root Beer tastes like mouthwash. Malzbier goes more into a medicine taste in a way? The flavor is really hard to compare to anything really.

Malzbier is a sweet, very-low or no alcohol brewed drink made from malt. We don't have anything quite like it in the US. The most similar I can think of is kvass, if you've had that.

To be fair, the flavors root beer gives off is the same flavor as German cold medicine. I don’t enjoy strong fake cherry flavored things because it reminds me of cold medicine
