“How many calories did I burn on my bike ride?” That’s a question I get from clients all the time, and the truth is… You’ll never really know. The only true way to measure calorie burn is by sitting in an exercise lab inside a special chamber that measures the heat your body gives off. So yeah… not exactly practical for busy parents. Devices like your Apple Watch, Garmin, Fitbit, or Whoop can give you estimates, but that’s all they are. Estimates. And they’re often way off. So instead of stressing about calories burned, here’s what you should focus on: ✅ The calories you’re actually eating each day ✅ How consistent you are with your workouts ✅ Your strength, performance, and progress over time ✅ Your daily steps ✅ Your body weight trends Those are the things that truly matter. Those are the things you can actually control. If you stick with those, and adjust based on your results, you’ll make progress. But if you obsess over how many calories you “think” you burned, you’ll just make the process harder and more confusing. Forget calories burned. Focus on consistency, effort, and recovery.
