I didn't book in advance for the Colosseum and I got in super fast, you just need to get there when it opens (8.30 am), there's a little queue for the tickets and then you can go to the main queue -

I just got back from 3 weeks in Italy,I found that 4-5:30 am was the best time to see the trevi fountain without a huge crowd. I couldn’t believe no matter the hour, there was people there lol

We didn’t buy tickets online for pantheon. The cash line for the pantheon goes much faster than the credit card line. We were inside within 5 minutes last week!

The Colosseum is free the first Sunday of every month and you also get admission to Palatine Hill and Roman Forum!
