@sayitoncedogtraining: No, your dog does not have ADHD. Our dogs, and let’s be honest ourselves as well, suck at doing nothing. We are constantly trying to appease the dogs anxious mind by giving them some new enrichment toys some new activity instead of teaching our dogs how to turn off and remain calm. The crazy parallel between the iPad and the enrichment toy is incredible. You’ll start to notice a tremendous amount of parallels in children and dogs. My dog is a family member that needs to learn how to behave and be a proper member of society, and all different types of situations. Personally, I want to bring my dog, or at least have the option to bring my dog, and every different situation possible. I want to take my dog inside of dog, friendly stores, and have my dog be well mannered. I want to take my dog to group class, but I also wanna take my dog to a coffee shop or a brewery and have my dog relax with me. we often like to use the saying that doing nothing is doing something, and how can you start this? I want you to take one of your kitchen chairs or your dining room chairs, sit down, and tie your dogs leash either to you or to the leg of the table. sit there and do work, read a book, paint, whatever it is, just sit there with them to start. Now they may start to wine, they may start to get fidgety, but allow them to go through this process, and to work through the stress that might come from literally doing nothing. Don’t talk to them, do not try to soothe them with baby talk that will only give affirmation to their whining, barking and fidgeting. If your dog can’t exist, and do nothing inside your home, how well do you think that’s gonna translate when you try to take your dog out into a public setting? during this exercise, you also want to give us a little feedback as possible. This is it in obedience command. We want the dog to start to make better decisions on their own during this game, so be silent. You’ll catch yourself, asking your dog 1000 commands of sit, sit sit, down down down, so let’s just not even start that process. How does your dog behave when you take them in public?
