I’m sure you’ve seen statements like this. Absolute statements- “you should never” “this is a stupid exercise”.— comment one below that you’ve seen.  It can be confusing at minimum and at worst, make you feel like you’re wasting your time, inexperienced, or uneducated if you exercise a certain way. There is no one singular right way to exercise. There are times when certain exercises are more effective and appropriate than others, but that’s mostly reliant on goals and circumstances. Training specificity is the key here. If you’re following a powerlifting page strictly focused on max strength, their advice is going to be a bit different than a lifestyle account or even a running page. It doesn’t make either approaches wrong but blanket statements like “you can’t run before lifting” for everyone….isn’t helpful. If your goal is max lifting and strength gains, running beforehand isn’t a strategic game plan and there are more effective movements you can choose. If your goal is to run a half marathon, lifting heavy before your long run may not be the most appropriate choice. If your goals are to increase cardiovascular endurance and strength, you should choose when to run or lift first based on your main priority and goal for that day/workout. Don’t over complicate things. If you enjoy running before your workout, do it.
