I’ve kept a journal for about the past decade and It has always helped me organize my thoughts, work through issues, reflect on where I am in life, gain clarity. The process of hand writing your thoughts and feels helps you be intentional about your words and discover patterns in your thought process. It always can be extremely cathartic and help with letting go and acceptance. I’m never too strict with how much I write, but I do try to always touch on three topics daily: 📓 Anything that’s on my mind - This is where I word-vomit and put whatever I’m thinking or feeling on the page. It helps me understand what is taking up most of my brain space and evaluate if it’s appropriate to be spending that much time and energy on one focus. 📓 Priorities - As a self-employed business owner, it can be tough to know what is important for me to accomplish in a given day, week, or month. Every day, I take some time to journal my priorities so I’m clear on exactly what needs to get done. Otherwise, I can get super overwhelmed and spend time working on things that I shouldn’t be wasting my time on. Especially in times of turmoil, lack of motivation, this gives me clarity on what the minimum I need to accomplish is. 📓Gratitude - This is the most important piece! Spending some time journaling about what you’re grateful makes life so much sweeter. Even in the toughest of times, there are so many amazing things you can focus on to make your day a little brighter. I try to focus on something hyper-specific, because research shows that the more specific you are, the deeper you are able to feel the gratitude. For example, instead of talking about how I’m grateful for the beautiful weather, I would write something like “I’m grateful for the warm breeze I felt this morning on my morning walk with my dog. The feeling on the Spring turning to Summer makes me feel so relaxed and comfortable, and watching the sun get higher in the sky reminds me that there are many brighter days ahead.” #journaling #mindsetshift #peakperformance #mindfulness #dailyjournalingideas #morningritual
