@rubin_allergy: The FDA recently sent a warning letter to Bimbo Bakeries USA because they were labeling some of their breads with food allergens such as tree nuts and sesame even though the food products did not contain those food allergens. This is very disappointing. Food labels should be truthful and not misleading since food allergies can be potentially life threatening. #food #allergies #tiktokdoc #LearnOnTikTok
they were overly cautious and were upset? this seems silly to me

Naaaaaa if there’s a chance those allergens can get on the food, the label should stay

So they are hoping to not be sued for accidental contamination will now add contaminates to the food to comply with accurate labeling?

If they don’t have the proper quality controls in place, they should absolutely keep that warning

I can’t blame them. The liability is too great. They will just add one seasame seed per loaf.

imagine having an allergy and bakeries start posting that everything they make has that allergen, what can you eat?

I don’t believe they should have to remove it. At any time they may receive tainted ingredients from their own suppliers, or have issues themselves. I’m sure they have cause to label it like that.

If they use the machines for those products, then they still have to label it

I figured all companies would start claiming food allergens just in case they ever got sued over it.

So why would they do that? Like what’s the reasoning behind lying about the ingredients?

I don’t agree with this take at all. I’d rather a manufacturer was overly cautious rather than under cautious.

Wait it doesn’t contain it, and they aren’t directly adding it. But it may be in it due to other products. So whats the issue?

im sorry I'm distracted by the fact that you can "choose" between all those brands of bread and still be buying from the same company

'May contain... ' is the usual liability waiver... But if it says 'does contain' and it's not factual, I get the concern. Just say 'may contain' and the FA community likely won't bother.

Why don’t the put may contain so they are legally protected also cross contamination could happen

Eh could be worse. They could be adding allergens and not labeling. Now that’s an actual problem

How do you get an item to be added to the allergen list. I am allergic to Sunflower oil and anything that have Sunflower in it.

I am confused ?!?!! The label says it has a certain allergen but then bread doesn’t contain it? I don’t see the issue.
