@soaljaboy: I didn’t know Sarah J Maas was a zionist until I was halfway through the ACOTAR trilogy — but given that information, the weird parallel between Velaris and The Court of Nightmares/The Hewn City compared to Israel and Palestine make a lot more sense. #acotar #BookTok #sjm #rhysand #feyre #acomaf #acowar #acourtofthornsandroses #acourtofmistandfury #acourtofwingsandruin

I'm on the fence. Yes it can be interpreted that way for sure, but it also aligns with othe such moments in history. when it comes to Rhysand, we only ever see him through Feyre's eyes and of course there is some disillusionment. he is her mate. in SF when we see it from Nesta's poverty it shows a completely different side and perspective of him. he isn't the"hero" fans claim he is. he even says so himself many times in the books. so often in art we see it mimic life. everyone comes from different positions and backgrounds. I can clearly see how you would interpret the books this way. but thats because of your life experiences. books are supposed to make you uncomfortable. to challenge your world view. to question what you first thought was true or reality. art is political. I personally will always love her books. I've been reading them since 2012 but I also see what you are saying and can understand why others will not read her books. its all about your pov

Too much. You can dislike the political side of SJM in the book but you can’t say that it’s Israel and Palestine story.

In her crescent city series, I noticed these parallels even more. It honestly made me sick to my stomach reading those books while simultaneously seeing what is happening is in the world

I am curious about your thoughts on her crescent city series, as there are themes of anti colonialism, and anti colonialism that seem very different than her ACOTAR Books in a jarring way

Oh dear…. I’m sure something “offensive” can be found in any book - it just depends on who is reading it

I can not believe I skimmed over all that and didn’t catch it. It wasn’t my favorite part of the story so I did just skim it but it feels glaring now

For clarification, they were allowed to leave. Just not Velaris. Mor’s treatment of Hewn City drives me crazy. I didn’t make any of those connections but I never understood how she couldn’t do
