I paid my 33 yr mortgage off in under 12 yrs, and I had a few grand saved up. Now I might have to put groceries on layaway because of the economy. Can't have a foot in the game if it gets cut off.

People who are poor are not going to get rich if they don't buy lottery tickets or stop taking out loans from smarmy payday loan establishments (probably owned by rich people) or opt to go to the laundromat instead of renting to own a washer and dryer (again establishments probably owned by rich people). They may be slightly less poor but they certanly aren't going to get rich.
