I am a mindfulness certified instructor and one thing I learned was that we should always be offering students something to do with their hands whenever we have a conversation that may be emotionally driven or be hard. I keep a basket of sensory items and fidgets at my table for discussions, problem solving, and emotionally driven conversations.
