Our biggest regret… We were even warned during our FIRST conversation with a local… our driver that picked us up from the Coron airport. When we asked him: “What’s your biggest recommendations on the island?” He didn’t say go take this tour, go to this bar, or see this beach. No… The only rec he gave us was “don’t drink the water. Not even the ice.” I’ve been to other countries in Southeast Asia.. in fact my first trip ever to Thailand I got the sickest I’ve EVER been from soup I got at a mom and pop shop in Chang Mai. Ice was never a problem for me traveling but I always got bottled water ever since. I personally thought the ice was a little extreme… but I guess I was wrong. We both got frozen margaritas at our rooftop bar. We asked if their ice was safe and they said it was from purified water. I was totally fine but after a couple hours Garet started to get pretty sick and it all took a turn for worse. So bad that we had to take him to the Coron hospital which is not somewhere you want to be. Now I don’t know if this is true for all of the Philippines but after we shared on our stories that Garet was sick I heard from MANY people that they (or their partner) also got very sick from the water or the ice. The thing is, Everytime you order a frozen drink or a drink with ice, you’re just rolling a dice. You don’t know if you’ll be fine or if you’ll be sick as a dog and have to cancel all your travel plans you already booked (and aren’t refundable). My biggest tip. Just play it safe. The frozen margaritas aren’t worth it 😅 I’d love to hear from you —> have you ever had a bad experience like this from the water or ice? What did you do to help it?
