Once it’s painted and all of the lights are on it will totally be fine. Also mirrors would be a huge help.

It looks dark now because there’s no paint to reflect the light. Once the lights are on, and you have the walls painted, it will look bright.

With weather and storms, I think lots of walls on first level is a good idea in case you need to retreat to it. Weather patterns are getting intense.

Install one or more 75” TV on the wall and send it a high resolution camera feed it becomes an electronic window. 4K camera and display is very affordable

Also, about the lack of windows in the gym… get mirror across the room from the transom window - same height. Add full length mirrors on the window wall It will naturally lighten the space.

I understand the view but whats more important at this level, secure in flood concerns or having a view? I mean the entire home upstairs is a great view. I think it works perfectly as is :).
