FALLING TECHNIQUES 🍁💪💡 1. How to fall forwards without getting hurt ➡️As you are falling towards the ground, put your hands in front of your face, bend your elbows, make contact first with the flat part of your hands. ➡️ So that's your point of contact-the flat part of your hands so as you fall forward you will put your hands out, try to make contact, and the rest of your body is going to come down right on top of that. ➡️ THE SAFEST WAY TO FALL in a forward position is on the flat part of your arms with your hand out in front of your face. 2. How to fall sideways without getting hurt ➡️ According to hip study, sideways falls are associated with 15× greater risk of hip fractures than forward falls. According to CDC 90% of all hip fractures are caused by falling on or near. ➡️ When falling sideways the last thing we want is to have contact directly to the hip. Our falling sideways technique is completely based on changing direction quickly to avoid landing on the hip. ➡️ As you are falling to the left, turn in the direction of the fall so that you can turn that dangerous sideways fall into a forward fall to minimize broken hip 3. How to fall backwards without getting hurt ➡️ As you are falling backwards, tuck your chin, bend your knees quickly (minimize the impact by 50%), bring your hands down, palms down flat to break your fall. If you find yourself falling just sit down. That's the quick tip. WHAT TO DO AFTER THE FALL ✅ The first thing to do is not immediately race to get up. Check yourself for injuries after a fall in 8 steps: * Stretch out on your back if you can * Check your ankles * Check your knees and hips * Check your hips and lower back * Check your wrists * Check your elbows * Check your shoulders * Check your neck ✅ If you are injured, try to get help right away by crawling or scooting. If you don't need urgent medical care after a fall but you can't get back up, your first move should be to try to find something you can use to help yourself stand up (chair, table, fence, toilet seat). 3 WAYS TO MOVE IN A FALLING EMERGENCY * Knees bent, roll onto your side, top leg over, onto the hands, and then you roll to the hips. Crawl. Look for a chair. * If you can't get to your knees, scoot, keep your hands close to your butt, lift yourself up and push. * If you can't roll over or get to your knees, try to pull yourself along on your stomach. #physicaltherapy #milfordct #youtherapy #YouTherapy #fallprevention
