The wife's response makes this situation even worse. She should check her husband and care for her stepson just as much as he cares for her daughter.

They could’ve celebrated her award another time. A high school graduation is a once in a lifetime event.

NTA. There is no reason why the new wife and her family can't support the daughter and the dad support his son.

It's not that daughter's fault that the stepmother deprived her own daughter of a father.. Nor is it her responsibility.

The way my heart broke when OP said his mom died and his dad is still choosing his stepsister's award ceremony knowing it would leave him parentless at his graduation

wouldn’t you like to know 🧐 :
AH no. I think when you’re the oldest, no matter the make up…we always get the short end of the stick. Personally…we’re alternating and graduations take precedence.

I usually just get mad or exasperated during AITA but this one literally made me tear up. I'm so glad this kid has his grandparents there for him, and I really hope he goes NC with his "family"

Okay I’ve had this problem all my life my dad prioritized my youngest sister over me all the time and would say that she’s doing better than me so why shouldn’t he support her? And that really tolls

I will never understand how a step parent wouldn’t make sure a parent is there for a graduation.
