As a fashion designer, incorporating sustainable approaches into my design process is crucial. I recently attended @Functional Fabric Fair at the Javits Center in NYC, which completely shifted my perspective on textile development & clothing manufacturing. The 3-day experience began with a Sustainability Workshop called Day 0, where I connected with hundreds of vendors and textile experts from places like South Korea, China, Taiwan, Italy, and many more. I discovered innovative materials like cooling fabrics, recycled polyester, and repurposed dyes. This experience will greatly influence my next collection for my clothing brand JPE NY. I realized that sustainability is a journey, and events like Functional Fabric Fair provide invaluable insights and connections. I'm looking forward to applying these learnings and can't wait to explore more at the 2026 fair. This fabric fair was a full circle moment for me after studying Production Management at the Fashion Institute of Technology. If you’re a student, designer, or changemaker looking to create fashion and innovative clothes that protects the future then right now is the best time to step into this immersive world of sustainability with Functional Fabric Fair. The next edition is in Portland, Oregon from November 11-13, 2025 and they will have four shows in 2026!
