Careful with materials is they have a water softener. Aluminum is no good there.

Powered annode rod all the way. Just put one in last weekend and the smell from hot water is completely gone after dealing with it for 2 years.

I replaced my magnesium anode rod with an aluminum anode rod an after about 6 months because of the high iron levels in our well water i have to replace it again soon. Im getting that egg smell now

how deep was the well? and also are you a fan of the old school technique of dropping a capful of bleach into the water heater before you put the new rod in and then flushing everything out?
