@richqueeraunties: I gave in to the immigrant urge to make food that you grew up eating but don’t have access to in your new country. I can make pretty much any soups and stews from home but baked goods can be a bit more tricky. You see back home, most homes do not have ovens so we almost always bought baked goods outside. And #sugarbread or #agegebread is one I never thought I’d be able to make. I don’t bake!! But I’ve gotten to a place where I’ll look up a recipe in a heart beat. I think there was a pride thing there for me for a while because we don’t cook with recipes. And as a first daughter, I learned to cook at the feet of my mom and grandma so looking up recipes always kinda made me feel less than. But, we’re growing and leaving nonsense expectations behind. So you’ll find me looking up recipes all the time. My favorite person to get recipes from is @kwankyewaaskitchen Look her up on YouTube and you’ll be able to make so many Ghanaian dishes you may crave but don’t quite know how to make to a T. That’s where I found this recipe for sugar bread. What y’all think? How did I do?! Also, I made #meatpie for the first time ever last week and it is so so good! Let me know if you want to see that video. #immigrant #ghana #nigeria #africanimmigrant

🥰🥰 I love this and seeing it. Totally agree, I came over in my mid 20s and malaysian food is so rare here. I taught myself to make things I could previously buy easily just to have a taste of home
