@screenwritinginla: Even though Scorsese is just talking about his thought process behind one shot in The Age of Innocence, he still gives such an amazing breakdown of the fundamentals of directing. Using every camera placement, camera movement, lens, etc., as tools to manipulate (in a good way) the audience’s train of thought and focus. And, of course, what a beautiful way to think about editing. The truly unique thing about filmmaking? The magic of creating an illusion in the mind of the audience from one shot to another.
