First time in Tokyo? Here are some quick tips from our short stay (especially for families): Ubers are super expensive! I’m talking about $60 for a 10-minute ride. If you must, go for local taxis instead — we paid around $5 for a 15-minute ride. If you’re from NYC, the subway will feel familiar — but trust me, you’ll still get lost. 😆 Japan’s train system is next level. Multiple trains often stop on the same platform, so if you’re not paying attention, you’ll end up going the wrong way. Luckily, most stations have super helpful staff ready to guide you. Dear Type A moms: I know you planned a 5-activity sightseeing marathon, but let me break it to you — you’ll be lucky if you manage three (and that’s if they’re in the same area). There’s a lot of walking, and it’s exhausting. My body felt like I got hit by a truck every night. 😅 Go to the supermarket or 7-Eleven! Stock up on snacks, quick breakfasts, and late-night meals. They have everything, it’s ridiculously affordable, and it’s a lifesaver for rushed mornings with kids. Family dining: We’re a family of five (six with our friend) and had no issues finding tables at restaurants. Sometimes they’d say “sorry, it’s full” — then follow up with, “five-minute wait,” like that was long! 😂 Some places had kids’ menus, some didn’t. The strawberries? Totally worth the hype. The fluffy pancakes though... pretty basic, honestly not worth the long wait. Don’t skip the Samurai/Ninja Museum! So fun and absolutely worth it. Stay outside the main tourist zones. It’s usually cheaper — just make sure you’re near a train line. Bonus points if it’s the Yamanote Line (it loops through all the major areas). We prefer having some space away from the kids, and since most hotels in Japan are tiny, we ended up finding an Airbnb with three bedrooms just three stops away from Shibuya and Shinjuku. Perfect setup. Overall, everyone is super nice and no matter what you did or didnt do- its still a memorable experience so dont stress yourself out. #japan #tokyo #familyvacation #familytips
