My question to the officer is this. Why don’t you tell them why they’re being stopped and follow that up with the request for the drivers license? That initial conflict is now over. That would be just a good practice?

The guy is in the wrong here, but it's not like the officer couldn't do anything different. He's always a bit on edge, has reflective sunglasses on, things that make a difference!
