My husband & I have both double barrelled our surnames. We created our own family name so not to be associated with one family more than the other

Both Men and women change their name to double barrel names. My hubby sees it quite a bit in his work. He sees more women not changing their name, just changing the Miss to Mrs now adays. ❤️

I am quite traditional. I would gladly take my bf’s surname if we get married. But if I was a big famous star, or big in the business world. Then I might think twice!

I know a couple that both took the double barrelled name. It’s completely personal choice I think. No set rules xx

Fr man I so understand that coz if you’re raised and see women usually take the guys surname id assume that’d happen to me too. I say people should just pick the cooler surname 😎

i feel like women obviously feel like it’s their name so they want to keep it but then there’s always a double barrel option and then like it’s nice to have the last name of your husband as well 💕

Muslim women don’t need to change their surnames. I’m always gonna be the daughter of my father first than someone’s wife 🥰

I love that in my religion there’s nothing such as changing your surname to your partners but it’s more of a cultural tradition that pressurises women to do so.

It’s bc back in the day the family of the woman would basically sell the daughter to a man, marriage wasn’t really for love it was for status and money, hense the term dads giving their daughter away

I personally would be honoured to take my other halves name if he was to ask me to marry him but again as you have said I’m quite traditional so I’d want to go with tradition

only my mum and her siblings took their husbands names when they came to England but my grandma back in china kept her maiden name as usually they keep it and only the children carry the husbands

i get the logic traditionally of the everyone having dad's name, because it's not like a mum can deny that that's her baby (or have people asking if she's sure it's really hers) but times have changed

From my knowledge, married women originally/historically had to take their husbands surnames due to ownership, (not saying this was good obviously, just where it comes from)

Surname changes after marriage always made me so uneasy! Y were women expected to let go of their heritage. Luckily I learnt that I did not need to change my surname, it wasn't expected by Islam 🫶

It’s because the woman was ‘brought’ by the man that’s why you’re given away and dowry’s paid etc so they were given the man’s last name as women were seen as the man’s property
