It’s the fumes that will ignite, not the liquid gasoline. That’s why the gas is turned into a mist by the carburetor or fuel injection before it will make the engine run

I am amazed that gasoline won’t explode or cause a fire unless there is a spark. The fumes off that must have been noxious, though. Be careful, my friend!
