My aunt survived it too. She didn’t talk about it at all except to say she hated pumpkins because they were all they had to eat after. ❤️❤️

I could never get through Sadako and The Paper Cranes with my third grade class in tears. I remember seeing footage of this day in a college screening room and I’ve never thought about the US in the same way. Same thing that is happening with Gaza…and politicians remain complicit. We’ve learned nothing. What a brave soul this woman is. Glad you shared her story.

TikTok is a lot of things, for the most part a form of escapism & brain rot, but I will never believe the things I’ve learnt, different stories I’ve come across. This is just incredible, speechless!

My grandmother grew up in Gifu. When she was 8-10, she was walking home from school, and it started “raining.” Then, everything was on fire.

Thank you for sharing. My grandmother is also named Toshiko and also from Japan; she was just 10 when this all happened. It’s so hard to see anything about WWII and think about what she lived thru

My birthday is August 6th. Sometimes I wonder why such a random day, but then I remember the historic things that happened on my birthday. Ive never been one for celebrating and I always wonder why-

I wanna say something not related much. I've been learning Japanese for like 6 years now and I know that lots of Japanese people have accents while speaking English and I need to say, this gorgeous(1)

Absolute chills. My grandparents were both imprisoned during WWII. My grandmother at Manzanar and my grandfather at Tule Lake. Their stories seem like different sides of the same coin as Toshiko ❤️🩹
