This just makes me want a villain who had been previously true polymorphed into a corpse. It doesn't remove their cognition, simply their ability to enact it personally.

I feel like this is why R.A.W isn't always that great. Things can make sense mechanically, but not logically....which is probably why most of us just homebrew

Also- anybody thinking that being able to kill a single enemy, no matter the enemy, makes a spell the most powerful is a bit shortsighted. My thought is Gate- that spell is scary.

what's stopping you from turning someone into a gem worth 100gp or something similar, then selling it? I doubt anyone is going to be casting a detect magic spell on a gem of the gem looks normal.
