I usually just round up. Most states charge between 6-9% sales tax so I just round up to an even 10% which usually leaves me with a surplus after calculation

People claiming to do math probably don’t. Mostly stores do this to make things seem cheaper / make it harder to retail arbitrage based on tax rates.

Most places have less than 10% sells tax so I always estimate for 10% so if it’s 10.00 dollars it’s a dollar so it will be 11.00 dollar total
