This is how I prepare pots for shipping out, although usually, when doing this en masse for hundreds of pots at a time, my workstation is a little more thoughtfully arranged. It starts with honeycomb paper and tissue paper, which is followed by some cardboard bubble wrap and a final layer of thicker corrugated cardboard. Overkill, maybe? But I’d rather package pots to an absurd level than have them break in transit. Once wrapped, the pots are placed inside a box cushioned on all sides with biodegradable packaging chips, the kind that dissolve in water, my aim being that absolutely nothing inside the parcel is loose. If I tape the box shut and shake it, I shouldn’t feel ANYTHING rattling inside. Double cardboard boxes are the way to go, although I often add additional layers, cut to fit, from cardboard I collect over the months and recycle this way. In fact, I try to practically reuse everything, so if you ever order from me, the parcels you’ll receive may not be the most perfect, neatly wrapped thing, but It’ll arrive in one piece. I’ve previously made a whole YouTube video just about packaging too, which you can find quite easily on the internet by searching for, ‘Florian Gadsby How to Package Pottery SAFELY for Shipping’, although the techniques shown work wonderfully, I should make an updated version as I now use no plastic, (apart from recycled materials I collect from orders of my own—and fragile tape, as I have a huge box of the stuff that I’m sure will take me years to get through). #wrapping #pottery #handmade #ceramics
