Cinematic history: Autumn Durald Arkapaw is the first female cinematographer to shoot a feature movie on 65mm film in IMAX. Sinners has one of the best oners I’ve ever seen and it’s in full 1.43 IMAX. Autumn Durald Arkapaw is one of my favourite cinematographers working today. Remarkably talented. In SINNERS, Autumn shot with 65mm Ultra Panavision (2.76 aspect ratio) and 65mm film in the IMAX format (1.43 aspect ratio). The 2.76 aspect ratio was used brilliantly by Robert Richardson in Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight. The jump from the 2.76 to the 1.43 is astounding on 70mm IMAX. What’s amazing is that these IMAX jumps are narratively and emotionally driven adding to the immersive experience. This is a clip from my our conversation which lasted about 45-minutes.
