@garvescope: How should a director talk to actors? Here are some important tips for how to talk to actors on set. Start by working to understand and respect their process. When you give feedback, make sure it’s clear and that you avoid any vague notes. Something like “be angry” isn’t helpful. Compare that to how something like, “You’re fuming quietly, then explode into loud anger,” paints a picture for the scene. You should work to make the set a safe environment for experimentation, too. Providing examples can help, if you have reference footage or audio. Focus on what the destination is, now how to get there. Actors will always perform better if they’re listened to and the people on set are patient and respectful, so focus on collaborating and INCLUDING the actors, versus dictating. Constructive criticism is okay, but if you have a critical environment you also need to have positive reinforcement. No two actors are the same, so it helps to adjust and personalize your process instead of treating everyone the same. You need to know when to step back and let the magic flow. #acting #actorslife #actors #actinglife #actingclass #actingcoach #actingskills #actingtips #actorsaccess #actorslifestyle #actingislife #actorsworld #actorsonactors #actingdirector #directorofphotography #moviedirector #moviedirectors #indiedirector #independentdirector #independentdirectors

As a writer, I try to keep these things in mind. I'm sorry, but it appears to me, there are some things you can't script. Take Judd Apatow for example.
