Dogs are fission/fusion social animals. They don’t maintain strict packs, but they do enjoy one another’s company and do certain activities as a group.

My dogs are wildly different when walked together v walker separately. My border collie herds my other, older dog and watches her but will run further ahead and play more when alone with me.

It’s a pedantic argument, because it’s pretty much meaningless either way bar working in biology, but packs are ran by the parents and packs are family units, where all the members are related. Dogs 1

The alpha was not able to be proven. It was determined by male scientist, and when female scientist came in they realize the male patriarchy mistake. And stray dogs create packs.

fyi the original research on alpha theory was done on captive wolves that were not related and that's why there ended up being battles for dominance because there wasn't an obvious "alpha" all the 1/

Feral domesticated dogs do not live in packs. They are not pack animals and do not den; females mate with multiple males in each litter and raise the pups independently (not in a pack). 1/2

I made the mistake once of having 17 dogs including a few intact males. When a stray b*tch in heat happened by the fighting began and one, bloodied, rose above the rest. Everyone got spayed/neutered.
