I’ve used construction adhesive like liquid nails or wood glue. Structural caulking works too.

It’s better then not having the caulk, but if you’re going to do this use vukem sealant & wipe away with solvent rag.

I’m surprised nobody said it… Pro Tip… use pressure treated lumber when installing outdoors. Paint doesn’t add that much protection.
