I went to Japan in 2018 and did a homestay, the family took me to a shrine on mt fuji and got a rental kimono picked out for me to use at the shrine and were rlly excited about it, its normal lmfao

I agree on the outset it feels weird, but the art of Kimono is dying and from what I understand you're welcome to participate as long as you do it with respect. That's what helping keeping it alive.

when I was doing a homestay with a Japanese family in Japan they legit begged me to try on a kimono. I couldn't turn them down but it was only like a try on I didn't go out in it.
