My small business is set up as an LLC taxed as an S Corp, so we have to pay ourselves salaries. This is for tax purposes because the IRS requires business owners who work in the company to get a reasonable salary based on the work they do before taking any additional profits. We’ve picked salaries that work for us, but we can adjust them if our income changes throughout the year. Any money that stays in the business will be reinvested, saved for a buffer, or paid out as profit. I’m still figuring out the best retirement plan, but the Solo 401k seems like a good fit. If you’ve gone through something similar recently, I’d love to hear your thoughts!
